I’ve uploaded a new article – The Case Against Gun Control.
Here’s the abstract:
Gun control violates the right of individuals to control their own property. It also violates economic law. Enforcement of gun control creates incentives to produce guns on the black market. Gun control causes crime and corruption, whereas gun ownership actually deters crime, and is a check against tyrannical government. In a free society, weapons can be controlled through voluntary, peaceful means.
I wrote this after reading John Lott’s More Guns, Less Crime. I wasn’t impressed with his empirical approach, so my goal was to build a case against gun control based on economic principles and theoretical, a priori arguments.

thanks for this info..it really helped me with my government debate on against gun control. i was already against it but your info made more info for me to present about why it is important for the government not to be able to control what we buy..thanks
Thanks so much for this. Like the above comment fromCourtney, this really helped with my debate. :]
Well done! I too have an assignment against gun control. I really appreciate your information and how logical it is. You touched on every legitimate topic against gun control without being emotional or unreasonably biased. Thank you so much!
Personally I believe that guns are crucial for a stable society and really feel that responsible gun ownership is really a fundamental right. In case you agree with me you'll likely take pleasure in these anti gun manage posters, even should you are pro gun control they're nevertheless funny.
You had to invent something called "protection insurance" (that everyone has to have? gov't mandate?) in order to make you free carry utopia work. FAIL.
I find your blog on this topic very hard to follow. You start off saying that gun control is the best thing out there and then towards the end, you start talking how gun control would be bad. I am very much against gun control my self, and your facts are understandable but your presentation of them does not show your understanding.
I've recently been thinking about this issue, and I think you may actaully be right.
I am however saddened that this is an issue to begin with.
Oh, goody! Violates rights to property. Can I have some nuclear weapons then? Crack? I also want some endangered species, maybe a wild tiger in the backyard. Hmmmm…gun control causes crime–where are the stats on that. Are you from the South?
In 2007, a guman entered the New LIfe Church in Colorado Springs intending to perpetrate one of the greatest massacres in U.S. history. He was armed with a weapon and thousands of rounds that he had gotten illegaly. Unfortunately for him he was only able to kill two people because he was met by a women that had a concealed carry permit. She used her firearm to fatally wound the gunman and by doing so she saved hundreds of innocent lives at the church. My point is that gun control does not stop armed criminals; law abiding citizens with guns do.
And you say take law abiding citizens guns away?
Well said. Good reference case as well. Some people will just never get it. In their minds, guns are just plain evil. There's little thought beyond that or they'd ALL be on our side. It reminds me of people with oddly paralyzing phobias – such as being deathly afraid of snakes when they've never really even been around one.
To those who still don't get it, you need not fear the law-abiding gun owner. I make you safer, wether you know it or not. Because my firearms aren't only for my own protection – but yours as well. I couldn't stand idly by and watch someone be victimized. My own morals and sense of obligation and principle would dictate that I intervene, despite the danger to myself – physical, mental and even legal – that doing so would likely entail. Disarm me for no reason other than the fact that there are "bad people" in the world… and I guess we both become victims.
Exactly. And of course this doesn't make big headlines, I don't even remember this. So the media presents a filtered view which makes gun control seem plausible. All the unseen cases of guns used defensively make a powerful case for gun ownership.
Well done. Even as a long-time supporter of the Second Amendment, you've given me a few things I previously hadn't thought of to research my arguements. Thank you.
Of corse these pathetic liberals who have spen too much time laying around in their strawberry fields think that people are not evil its the gun that makes them evil so they say that if all guns around confiscated and melted down into park benches we would all live in peace and harmony becuase liberals have pea sized brains
i am against gun control, reasons donot want to be a victim .bad guys donot buy guns in store . cops donot do enough to stop them . people that support gun control like to turning the other cheek because thay rather run even if it cost them and ther family own lifes bureaucrats communist liberals want to disarm the country so thay can apply their own dictatorship, guns donot kill people, people do .what happened in tucson was bad. but their many more incident like home invasion and raps carjacking where people get kill over 100.000 incident daily in this nation
Goverment,
stay out of our lives, if you want to help something, pay off the dang debt
I am currently writing a persuasive essay over gun control and I am for it. How would you feel if you woke up one morning, went next door to check on your only two sons to find your grandchildren curled up next to your sons' cold lifeless bodies, crying? My friend and his younger brother owned guns but never had a chance because they were asleep in their beds at three a.m. having no clue what was fixing to take place. A man went in and killed them by shooting them several times. The oldest had two small children that witnessed the murder of their own father then curled up against his lifeless body for five hours before anyone found them. The man that killed them was an ex-convict, payed by my friends wife to kill him. His younger brother was not supposed to be there and lost his life simply because he was. Tell me how not enforcing gun control could have helped in this situation. I can tell you how it could have helped; by an ex-con not being able to purchase a gun from an individual sale.
The comment made about starting a war by having control blows me away. Anytime law enforcement is called to a residence, whether it be domestic violence or a hostage situation, they have to fight to make things right again. Is the author saying that if law enforcement has to start more war by trying to save someones life, they should just let things be and let the husband go ahead and killthe wife by beating her to death? What about hostages; why take a risk let the kidnapper kill these inocent citizens because it is not worth the fight? Come on people, get real!!
@Kimberly Loudermilk there will ALWAYS be weapons or guns. we live in an imperfect world, you can not fully regulate one thing. same thing goes with drugs… and look at how that is going. i don't know how you can still have such a naive view on this topic after reading this amazingly well written article.
